The key to personal growth is meditation upon God’s Word. Jesus said that man should not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4). If you want to grow physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and financially you must meditate upon the scriptures relevant to your needs. You may not see the growth instantly. But if you keep with it personal growth and change are inevitable.
The biblical meaning of meditation is to speak, utter, study, imagine, muse and sing. The Bible uses meditation as deep contemplation to gain greater understanding and be transformed by God’s Word. The Hebrew word for meditation comes from the word hagah which means to mutter. Often in the Bible, when the word meditate is mentioned, the mouth is also mentioned. Meditation on God’s word means to mutter God’s word to ourselves. God told Joshua that the book of the law was to remain in his mouth day and night. Joshua 1:8 reads:
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. (Jos. 1:8)
By using your mouth to speak God’s Word aloud, God’s word will get into your subconscious quicker.
But why is speaking God’s Word aloud so important? Because failing to do it will slow and eventually stop your growth as a Christian. Think about how many people you see at church that never seem to change or get victory in their lives. By failing to speak God’s Word aloud they limit its ability to get into the subconscious where change can take place in their lives.
By failing to speak God’s Word aloud we are now all that we are ever going to be. You see today’s church is very big on information and very short an application. Speaking God’s Word aloud is application and doing it will change your life. During the upcoming shows I will be talking more about speaking God’s Word. So, stay tuned in! It’s going to be life transforming!
